What this site collects
This site does not use reader accounts, advertising pixels, or personalized advertising. It offers optional Google Analytics 4 measurement so the editorial team can understand which pages are useful and how readers find the publication.
Google Analytics is disabled by default. The Google tag is not downloaded and no analytics request is sent unless you select Allow analytics in the consent notice. If you allow analytics, Google may process page URLs, referral information, browser and device details, interaction events, and approximate location information. Google Analytics may set first-party cookies such as _ga to distinguish visits. See Google's privacy policy for information about Google's processing.
Advertising consent remains disabled even when analytics is allowed. The site configures ad_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization as denied and disables Google signals and ad-personalization signals.
Your theme preference and analytics choice are stored locally in your browser. The preference values themselves are not sent to Trace Brief.
If you email the editorial address, your email provider and ours process the message and its metadata. We use that information only to respond, review a correction, or handle the request you initiated.
Hosting logs
The future hosting provider may temporarily process standard server logs, including IP addresses, request paths, user-agent strings, and timestamps, for security and reliability. Update this section with the chosen provider's exact retention policy before production deployment.
Your choices
You can decline analytics when the notice appears. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Analytics settings in the site footer. Withdrawing consent removes accessible Google Analytics cookies and reloads the current page without the Google tag.
